The Object of Mapping

MapInfo MapX is a cost-effective, robust OCX component that is easily integrated into applications using standard visual programming tools. As an OCX, MapInfo MapX offers true Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) control, allowing you to integrate a mapping object into new and pre-existing applications, depending upon the needs of the specific users in your organization.

Choosing MapInfo MapX for the mapping component of your software solutions will lead to significant overall resource savings and increased organizational productivity.

MapX is as well used in MapXtreme, the INTERNET applications environment of MapInfo. That makes it easy to port your applications to the web.

MapInfo MapX is integrated using standard programming languages — Visual Basic, Visual C++, Delphi or PowerBuilder. There is no need to learn difficult new programming languages, so developers can quickly and easily design and implement custom solutions. MapInfo MapX reduces the cost of acquiring mapping innovation for your company in several ways:

  • Group pricing represents a cost-per-seat savings over other OLE technologies

  • No cost to learn or purchase a proprietary programming language

  • Integration costs decrease with the ability to be embedded quickly into pre-existing business applications

  • End-user training costs decrease due to the ease of using MapInfo MapX features incorporated into their familiar software environments

  • MapInfo MapX OLE controls are truly embedded in your business applications, so extra support and maintenance cost burdens upon internal MIS departments are minimal

MapInfo MapX Mobile

MapInfo MapX Mobile is a development tool for creating map-based applications for mobile workers. Applications that are built with MapInfo MapX Mobile leverage the Pocket PC Windows OS, running on devices such as the Compaq iPAQ and HP Jornada. This specialized version of the popular MapInfo MapX Active X Control can be used to bring existing map-based applications onto mobile devices, or to create new applications.

Highlights:

  • Applications work anywhere—indoors, outdoors, rural or urban—they don’t require wireless connectivity.

  • The application and data reside on the device.
  • Any and all data can be synchronized with the desktop, including MapInfo .TAB and .GST files.
  • Applications can connect to Pocket Access and Microsoft® SQLTM Server 2000 Windows CE Edition.
  • Applications created with MapInfo MapX Mobile can also receive up content via a wireless connection. For example, an application written with MapX Mobile can display maps generated by MapInfo MapXtreme, our Internet/intranet mapping application server.
